the government offering more incentives, discussion help

DISCUSSION 1:

I believe the government should offer more incentives to people to buy fuel-efficient vehicles based on the idea of climate change, and environmental protection. It is not an easy thing to accept change in any situation unless there is guarantee the change would be beneficial, and economically viable for people. If the government can provide the necessary favorable incentives, people will take to hybrid vehicles, knowing that it will help to reduce pollution and help with environmental protection.

DISCUSSION 2:

I am not a big fan of the government getting involved in my decision as to whether or not I purchase a hybrid vehicle. Maybe if the government were to give incentives such as a tax deduction for buying a alternative fuel vehicle would be ok, but I could see it leading to more than that just because these vehicles cost so much. I personally would not want a Prius, or any of the Smart type of vehicles, just based on their size. I would not want my wife or kids to get into an accident in such a tiny vehicle. If Elon Musk, owner of Tesla, could make an affordable electric car, rather than cars that cost $80,000 to $200,000, I think more average people could afford one. The technology is still pretty new in its development stage so hopefully in the near future these cars will become more affordable, and everyone can afford one.
