 The elderly are seemingly easy targets for criminals.The elderly typically live alone,keep cash on hand and are weaker than their attackers. “The elder generation holds most positions of accumulated wealth and wealth giving power at the same time is typically weak and mentally feeble”(Wallace & Roberson 2011). The area and neighborhood where I am from does not seem to have system in place to protect the elderly specifically. Most people tend to put their elderly loved ones in nursing homes, or move them in to live with relatives. There isn’t a special task force assigned to just the elderly. However, most communities have senior civic centers that keep the elderly active and involved in their communities. These kinds of resources will keep elderly persons aware of their surroundings. Having the elderly involved in self defense classes and classes that teach them to be less of an easy target. On going seminars on safety and not letting unknown persons into their homes are precautionary measures that could be used to assist the elderly.
