The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have changed the formula on how hospitals are reimbursed. The formula now includes input from the patient on their hospital admission. To help quantify the patient’s perception, the CMS has developed a survey known as HCAHPS.  This survey is completed by the patient following a hospital admission. These surveys are either mailed to the patient, or conducted over the phone.
