Indiana University of Pennsylvania Strategic Priorities and Strategies

Getting Started

A tool called a SWOT (Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats) Analysis or Matrix (a/k/a TOWS Analysis/Matrix) is used in completing the examination of the environment. This tool takes the information gleaned from the environmental scan (the internal and external analyses) and puts them into an easy to read and understanding diagram. After the SWOT analysis is complete, the organization moves to identifying strategic priorities and specific strategies to address those priorities. In this assignment, we use the Coastal Medical Center Comprehensive Case Study to conduct the SWOT analysis. You will develop strategic priorities based on the results of your analysis; then, identify potential strategies that could be utilized to address these priorities.

Upon successful completion of the course material, you will be able to:

  • Illustrate strategic planning process development.
  • Employ systems thinking in strategic planning.
  • Evidence critical thinking and analysis.
