criminal justice system, assignment help

Introduction

In the criminal justice system, various forms of reports are used as evidence to a case presented to a court of law. This evidence is used to determine the connection between a crime and a suspect or an offender of the law. Witnesses, police statements are among the primarily used types of evidence to determine how a criminal is to be convicted. Moreover, today the law is also using visual aids that create emphasis on a point brought forward by a witness or a police report (Plotnikoff & Woolfson, 2015). Visual aids include graphs, charts, and photographs among others that show clearly the happenings of a crime scene so as to remove any doubt of a connection between a suspect and the crime.

Visual Aids in Criminal Justice

The criminal justice system is known to deal with the security of individuals in the society by ensuring that criminals are punished, and innocent people receive fair judgment. When an offender is caught and taken to court, he goes through a series of trials where evidence is presented to help solve the allegations against him. Visual aids are used as part of the evidence to create emphasis on the court. Visuals aids used in the justice system include reenactments, graphs, charts, photographs, time lines and computer generated images (Great Britain, 2010).

An offender in a court of law most of the times claims that they are innocent of allegations against them. They even insist of their absence in a crime scene, a fact that is cleared by the visual aids. The reenactments presented to a court allow for the people present to view the occurrence of a crime scene clearly as they are clear images of what is happening. Photographs on the other hand proof the existence of a crime as they capture the moment an event is taking place. Moreover, aids such as time lines portray how the events of a crime occurred at a particular period. Additionally visual aids such as graphs and charts represent other mediums used in an offense such as poison if present and chemicals among others. Therefore to offer efficient and reliable support to evidence in court visual aids are used to show the existence and occurrence of a crime clearly.

Creating Effective Visual Aids

Visual aids are used as supportive elements to existing data or information and should thus be clear and of high quality (Guffey & Loewy, 2010). To maintain the quality of visual aids one should at first establish a simple idea that will be used to design each of the aids to be presented to a court of law. Secondly, in the case of images or wording the same font size should be used and also it should be a large font viewable y every person clearly. Diagrams, charts, and graphs used as aids should clear and without any errors so as to make the information in them reliable and valid. Lastly images, photographs, and videos used as aids for presentation should be of high quality so as to make them effective in delivering their message to the viewers.

I agree that anytime a person is presenting, they should have all of their facts straight and factual. Not only does the attention of the audience end, if found deceptive, but also the credibility of the presenter. With photoshop do you think that a majority of photography needs to be validated prior to presentation? “
