Descriptive Discussion Assignment: QEP Keeping It Real: Classroom to Career: Envisioning Your Professional Image

This week, you will write a Descriptive Passage that includes a beginning, a middle, and an ending and which contains at least 200 words. In it, you will create a snapshot in words of your professional image. In the beginning of the passage, you should indicate that you are going to describe your professional image. Then you should include nicely developed details that share a visual picture of that image, including the setting of your job, the wardrobe appropriate to that setting, and the professional traits needed to be successful there. At the end, you should provide concluding material in a sentence or two to bring the work to a satisfying close. Here is an example to help you understand what is expected. By Saturday, July 22, 2017, post your work in the Discussion Area below. Copy and paste your draft into the response section. Then, by Wednesday, July 26, 2017, provide comments to two of your peers using the questions below.

What is a perceptual set?

Perceptual set is a tendency to perceive or notice some aspects of the available sensory data and ignore others.

Our bodies are magnificent machines. One of the ways they demonstrate this is by taking repetitive motions and actions and reducing the resources needed to perform them. For instance, when a baby is learning to walk, each step is planned and performed. But after a relatively short period of time, they are running without giving it a thought – they just run (and run and run and run…)

Our brains do the same thing. The world is full of information that continually enters our senses. In order to speed up processing time and reduce the energy needed to perform those functions, it operates largely on what is expected and not necessarily on what is actually there.

And that is what Perception Set Theory gets into – how the brain “perceives” – or as the below link describes it – “Perceptual set theory stresses the idea of perception as an active process involving selection, inference and interpretation.”

Perceptual set is a tendency to perceive or notice some aspects of the available sensory data and ignore others. For instance, have you ever seen this:

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

The brain doesn’t read every word but instead selects out important bits and teases out the rest based on expectation and inference.

Another kind of perceptual set is when we have a fear of snakes, to automatically assume that every suspicious looking thing in the grass is a snake – even though most times we’re looking at a garden hose.

There are a number of ways perception sets can change. If we’re hungry, the perception set will tend to look for food over other things.

The link has a great article about perception sets.

Module 4

Assignment 2: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Over the years, trait theory has been increasingly used by corporations in hiring and in career counseling. Research has shown that certain combinations of personality traits fit well with different career paths. Thus, personality trait tests for specific jobs can be predictive of both success and satisfaction. Understanding your own personality-trait combinations can give you great insight into your own strengths and weaknesses. With this understanding, you can work to grow your strengths and minimize your weaknesses.

In this assignment, you will explore your personality using a personality test and then analyze the results.

Part 1

First, explore your personality preferences by completing Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MTBI). The full version of the test can only be administered by a trained professional; however, there are many online informal versions of the test which you can find on the Internet. You can search for the test using any one of the following keywords:

  • Personality test + Myers-Briggs typology
  • Myers-Briggs test

Record your four-lettered personality type after completion of the test and use the Internet to interpret your personality type.

Part 2

In this part of the assignment, you will write a research paper that analyses your results. Do the following:

  • Mention your four-letter type and the URL of the Web site where you took the test.
  • Discuss whether this type accurately represents what you know about yourself. Examine the four spectrums and explain your answer thoroughly. Substantiate your agreement or disagreement with real-life behavioral examples.
  • Analyze what you consider the strengths and the weaknesses or challenges of this type. List three strengths and three weaknesses and provide a rationale for each.
  • Evaluate why this test could be a valuable tool for an employer.
  • Analyze how a clinician may use this test as a tool for promoting meaningful interventions in treatment.
  • Summarize what you have learned about yourself through this exercise.

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.

By Wednesday, February 8, 2017, deliver your assignment to the M4: Assignment 2 Dropbox.

LASA: Mock Individual Assessment Final Draft

By Monday, July 3, 2017, submit to the M5 Assignment 2 a mock forensic assessment report based on a patient in a selected vignette. Provide your diagnostic impressions based on the DSM-5 criteria.

Complete the following:

  • Improve your interview and referral questions for the case vignette you selected in M1 Assignment 3.

Using this case vignette, add to your referral questions by integrating the feedback that you received from your instructor in M4 Assignment 2 on your mock interview questions and formulated hypothesis on why the individual needs the referral.

Example Referral Questions:

  • As a forensic mental health professional, what factors do you need to consider in your psychological testing for the forensic assessment report?
  • What are the pertinent multicultural consideration?
  • What behavioral observations do you make about the client by reading the case vignette?
  • What are your assessment options in working with the client?
  • What standard and accepted psychological tests might you apply to your client in a forensic setting? Select from the instruments you researched in M3 Assignment 2 RA.
  • How will you recognize and evaluate your client’s offender behaviors associated with malingering and deception?
  • What theoretical orientation do you want to use in this case for your treatment recommendations?
  • What is the case scenario that you have selected?
  • What is the reason for referral?
  • What is the purpose of the forensic assessment and report?
  • What is the nature of the problem presented in your selected case vignette?
  • What is the context in which the forensic assessment report will be used?
  • What is the background of your client? What are the symptoms displayed by your client and their significance in this case?
  • What is the mental status of your client? Be sure to elaborate on every major component addressed in the mental status examination.
  • What interview type and approach did you use with your client?
  • What tests are appropriate to use in your forensic assessment report? Identify one intelligence test, one objective personality test, and one projective test.
  • What collateral information will you use in the process of the evaluation?
  • How will you present your impressions of the client?
  • Revise your copy of Forensic Mental Health Professional Individual Assessment Report on the basis of your instructor’s feedback.

Using the Forensic Mental Health Professional Individual Assessment Report template that you downloaded for M4 Assignment 2, revise your evaluation and interpretation of the information provided to you in the case vignette that you selected. Synthesize the information you collected to create a forensic mental health professional individual assessment report. Your findings should be in a report format.

In a 10- to 12-page report, include only the following components:

    • Reason for Referral: Explain the objective of your case vignette analysis, clearly bringing out the aspects or reasons that motivated you to carry out the study.
    • Presentation: Create mock interview data and collateral information (you are to identify the questions to ask in the interview). Provide a synopsis of the interview. To support the mental status of your client, provide data based on your forensic assessment report and the mental status components you have identified.
    • Current Life Situation and Background Information: Explain the problem provided in your selected case vignette using the interview and mental status data. How does the data relate to the background and multicultural characteristics of your client and your behavioral observations?
    • Objective Testing: Identify the assessment instruments you would recommend to evaluate the client and explain the rationale for your recommendations. Describe the objective tests you have selected and their use. How did you apply these tests to your selected case vignette? According to your study, what is your analysis of the symptoms displayed by your client? What ethical and multicultural issues do you need to address? You will apply what you have learned from M3 Assignment 2 RA to this section.
    • Provide your diagnostic impressions based on DSM-5 criteria. What is your principal diagnosis? What is your secondary diagnosis? Are there other conditions that may be the focus of clinical attention to consider?
    • Conclusion and Recommendations: What is your hypothesis after taking into account the mental status examination, the interview, personality tests, and the symptom analysis? Explain your hypothesis and substantiate it using instances from your case study. Discuss your results with conclusions and recommendations.

The final version of Forensic Mental Health Professional Individual Assessment Report should contain all the assigned components and the corresponding information and include revisions and improvements based on your feedback from M4 Assignment 2.

  • Synthesize the data and write a reflection statement in 2–3 pages.

In a separate document, address the following:

    • Describe your professional role and relationship with the court and the third party requesting the assessment or evaluation.
    • Explain the hypothesis you have formulated.
    • Explain why you chose the tests for the assessment of the client.
    • Discuss potential ethical dilemmas that might arise in your assessment of the client.
    • Discuss the pertinent multicultural perspectives you considered.
    • Explain how you would prepare yourself to defend your evaluation in the court setting or to relevant third parties. Be sure to support your explanation with professional literature.
    • If you recommended treatment for your client, discuss the evidence-based approaches used with the disorder you diagnosed.
    • Discuss the influence of cultural factors on the assessment process.

Your final deliverables are:

  • A selected case vignette
  • A list of interview and referral questions
  • The assessment template
  • The final assessment report
  • A reflection statement

Your report and reflection statement combined should be approximately 12–15 pages. You are to utilize outside resources in your reflection statement only.

For Phyllis Young: Protecting Children from Media

Protecting Children from Media

For his 10th birthday, Greg was given a handheld videogame system. His parents allowed him to pick any two games. They knew the games might contain violence, because there was a violence rating sign posted on the games, but rationalized that they were only games and other kids play them. Greg would quickly finish dinner and run up to his room to play his games.

His parents were pleased to observe that Greg enjoyed their present so much. After a week, his parents noticed that he wasn’t turning off the videogames at bedtime, and had begun turning homework in late. He was up so late playing that he would not get up for school without argument. His parents decided that enough was enough and took the video games away. Greg threw temper tantrums and persuaded his parents to buy him a computer after convincing them that it was necessary to keep up at school. Greg soon returned to the same pattern of behavior where he spent long hours and late nights at the computer. This time, his parents felt a false sense of security that he was doing his homework. One day, his curious parents decided to scan the computer history to see what Web sites Greg was browsing. To their horror, they discovered that Greg was spending many hours online playing interactive, sometimes violently graphic, games on the Internet. He was also chatting with other “gamers”. Before confronting Greg about his behavior, his mother and father agreed to investigate what types of intervention strategies might be available within their community. They have come to you, a behavioral consultant, for advice.

Click to Read the Kaiser Family Foundation Study: Generation M2. Media in the Lives of 8- to 18- Year Olds.

Describe the issue of exposure to videogame violence in today’s society as related to Greg’s situation. Explore issues such as:

1.     Prevalence (e.g., age, gender, racial diversity, etc.)

2.     Given Greg’s developmental level, what are possible dangers of exposure to media violence? Be sure to address this in the context of his cognitive and socioemotional development.

3.     Risk and protective factors, including predisposition to violence (e.g., are all children who play violent videogames likely to become more aggressive? What protective factors might mitigate the possible outcomes for Greg?

4.     Discuss the possible outcomes if Greg’s behavior continues unchecked.

5.     Discuss types of intervention strategies you would expect his parents to find at a community level, such as in community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to assist children like Greg who are at risk due to ongoing exposure to media violence.

6.     What would be a good plan to recommend to Greg’s parents?

7.     Compare the dangers of exposure to videogame violence with other forms of violence. What are similarities and differences between videogame violence exposure and the other type of violence you chose to compare?

What are the costs of videogame violence to the family and the community and society at large and the other form of violence you chose for comparison?

Format  paper in APA (6th edition) style, using information you learned in your textbook and from the Kaiser Family Foundation Study to support your response. Paper should be between 5 and 6 pages in length.

Include a cover page,

 abstract,

and reference list, which should cite any information used from your assigned textbook, Kaiser Family Foundation reference (attachment/ Xtra2), and other sources such as online course content.

Why would knowing the correct way to lift a heavy object be an important behavior to protect the health of the male reproductive system?

Knowing the proper way of weight lifting not only reduces ergonomical hazard it would also be preventing a disease called inguinal hernia.

Inguinal hernia has no early symptoms that is why very few discover the disease in its early stages. When you lift improperly especially heavy load ones, the intestinal tissues are greatly stressed and will push down through the inguinal canal and settle in the scrotum and the groin. This happens slowly or drastically depending on how heavy and frequent you lift objects. Symptoms may include swelling of the scrotum in men, pain in the groin when coughing, bending or exercising. That is why always remember to lift with your legs and that the safety belt worn during weight lifting is not placed on the groin but on the abdomen. Hope this helps.
