Similar to the business sector, the health care sector relies on practices similar to Six Sigma to manage healthcare. For example, the health care professional uses a medical model to first diagnose, treat, and follow-up with the patient. Similarly, within the business sector, problems are solved by following the Six Sigma methodology: defining the problem, measuring the problem to identify the gaps, analyzing the problem, designing for improvement, implementing the solution, and controlling or monitoring it (Dunn, 2010). As a healthcare leader, it is important to apply the Six Sigma methodology to daily internal operational processes to improve data gathering, processing, and reporting to ensure the appropriate information is being collected and reported to the right audience for effective decision making.

Activity Description

Managed health care systems rely on the collection, analysis, and reporting of data for decision making that affects people participating in such systems. In a paper using Six Sigma methodology, evaluate the usefulness of data and reports in medical management and include specific examples either from your own experience or what you may deem important once you are in the field. Then, determine and explain the best practices for using data and reports that you would implement in medical management.

Support your paper with a minimum of five scholarly peer-reviewed sources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and references page; five scholarly references within the last five (5) years, APA format.
