Discussion question and peer reviews

DISCUSSION POST MUST BE 10+ SENTENCES AND THE PEER REVIEWS MUST BE 7+ SENTENCES PLEASE USE YOUR OWN WORDS AND DO NOT COPY FROM OTHER SITES STAY ON TOPIC ,BE POSITIVE , AND DO NOT COMMENT ON GRAMMAR ERRORS. TALK DIRECTLY TO CLASSMATES IN PEER REVIEWS!!! YOU MUST COMPLETE BOTH PEER REVIEWS AND DISCUSSION QUESTION!! THANK YOU.

1) DISCUSSION QUESTION

Part 1: Post a Response

Sometimes we are interested in the way that organisms are distributed across a particular habitat, as described in Chapter 16. Corina Tarnita’s research on the spacing of termite mounds in savanna ecosystems is one example. Watch the video about her research, found at: , and then address the following:

  • What do you think is the most interesting aspect of Tarnita’s research?
  • Discuss how the termite mounds benefit other organisms on the savanna.

2) PEER REVIEW (TEMEIKA)

Hello Dr. Cox and classmates,

What do you think is the most interesting aspect of Tarnita’s research?

How she started looking for patterns after becoming bored with math which she loved so much. Her research started with the patterns but then went to the termite mounds. I enjoyed learning about the termite mounds were hot spots, and how the rich soil enhance plant growth. I didn’t understand how the mounds were green like little trees and termites look like they do not grow under trees. Dr. Corina was surprised about the patterns of the termite mounds. She learned they were hexagons and their competitive behavior is what created them. Termites do not eat where they sleep. This hold video was interesting to me.

Discuss how the termite mounds benefit other organisms on the savanna.

The two patterns on different scales combined help to reveal a dynamic fundamental system of the savanna. The termite mounds are beneficial because they act as a double role both delaying the collapse of the system to reset and also helps with the rebound at the same time.

3) PEER REVIEW (JESSICA)

Hello Dr. Cox and Classmates,

What do you think is the most interesting aspect of Tarnita’s research?

The most interesting aspect of Tarnita’s research is the role that mathematics plays in biology. The aspect of mathematics in biology is evident through the patterns found in the ecosystem. Dr. Tarnita recognizes the natural patterns found various ecosystems. She identifies the geometrical patterns found in the African Savanna. She uses mathematical modeling that explains regularly patterns of the Termite mound patterns. These patterns found in nature identify the biological process that is evident through the analysis of these patterns. The patterns found in the Savanna recognize the role that patterns play in understanding the mechanisms that underline vegetation patterns that provide patterns that provide ecologist insights into the biological process.

Discuss how the termite mounds benefit other organisms on the savanna.

Termite mounds benefit the Savanna through their role as a biological hotspot. Termite mounds benefit other organisms on the Savanna through the manner they enrich the moist soils that enhance plant growth. Termite mounds are identified as islands of green in the Savanna that enhance the ecology found in this environment. Termite mounds are centers of biological hot spots that benefits other organisms on the Savanna. They provide nutrient and water-rich soils to the plants found in the Savanna. These Termite mounds enhance the stability of the various ecosystems found in the Savana.
