Explain how the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct can be used to guide decisions in the ethical application of these technologies.

In recent years, the psychology profession has been greatly influenced by various forms of technology. The prevalence of psychology professionals using technology to market themselves and engage, socialize, and interact with others has created new opportunities and challenges. This is particularly true with regard to potential interactions with clients via these technologies. Given the exponential growth with which these technological advancements are permeating our world, we expect to see the proliferation of new issues, challenges, and opportunities within the realms of psychological research and practice.

In your initial post:

  • Provide an overview of the relevant issues, ongoing trends, challenges, and future opportunities for psychology professionals and the populations they serve.
  • Explain how the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct can be used to guide decisions in the ethical application of these technologies.
  • Construct clear and concise arguments using evidence-based psychological concepts and theories to explain how current technological and policy shifts may influence trends in psychological research and practice.
  • Evaluate potential work settings where the use of technologies promotes ease and convenience for both psychology professionals and the populations they serve.

What are the potential responsibilities of the psychology professionals as providers of care with regard to the use of these technologies? Does the increase in ease, convenience, and experience satisfaction for the parties involved outweigh any potential negative outcomes?

For this assignment, create a blog post that highlights cognitive and language development.

 Instructions

For this assignment, create a blog post that highlights cognitive and language development. In addition, focus on customizing meaningful learning experiences for different educational settings. For example, select a specific subject, then model meaningful learning experiences for an elementary class and then a high school class.

In your blog entry, be sure to address the following:

  • Provide insights from at least two classic theorists of cognitive development (i.e., Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky) on what they offer about how to assess and potentially foster children’s or adolescent’s cognitive growth.
  • Explain the language capabilities you could expect in students at different grade levels.
  • Discuss strategies to help bloggers accommodate diversity in their students’ cognitive and language development, while customizing meaningful learning experiences for different educational settings.

In addition to creating your own blog, submit a copy of your blog along with the link to your blog, as with all other written assignments.

Length of blog: 4-6 pages, not including title and reference pages. Support your blog with a minimum of three scholarly sources.

Your blog must be effectively designed and must meet the following criteria:

  1. Locates a website that your professor can easily access. It is suggested that you use a free website such as http://www.wordpress.com/.
  2. Contains text that is readable (e.g., appropriate size of font, type of font, contrasts with background, contains sufficient white space).
  3. Includes information within the blog that supports the assignment.
  4. Ensures all the links are active and work.
  5. Contains at least one graphic.
  6. Contains the same template throughout with a consistent design.

Your blog should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your submission should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards where appropriate. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

Write a 700-1000 word paper analyzing an emotional experience.

Write a 700-1000 word paper analyzing an emotional experience. The experience can be your own or that of another person. The experience should be one involving intense emotions such as self-defeating anger, anxiety, guilt, depression. Your analysis should identify and examine:

1. The elements of the emotional experience (emotional objects, bodily feelings, replaying of bodily feelings, behavioral changes, emotional reasoning).

2. The particular emotion/s in question (anger, guilt, anxiety, etc.) using the E=O + R formula (See examples of such definitions of emotions in your text, p. 8.)

3. The emotional reasoning. Formulate this reasoning using the standard form of emotion reasoning:

If O then R

O

So, R

For example, say O = my friend lied to me; and R = He is a rotten person. Then the emotional reasoning would be:

If my friend lied to me then he’s a rotten person

My friend lied to me

So, he’s a rotten person

(See reading on “Emotional Reasoning

” and your text, pp. 14-17, for further details).

4. Identify any fallacies in the premises (refer to chapters 2-4 in your text, the definitions contained in  Cardinal Fallacies, and your scanning records in Tell Walter);   5.  Show how to refute these fallacies, that is, discuss why they are irrational.

6. Discuss how the situation leading to the emotion/s in question might have been more rationally managed using the theory of guiding virtues and other philosophical insights gleaned from the course (see discussions of guiding virtues in your text, chapters 2-4, and the link Guiding (Transcendent) Virtues.

7. Discuss a plan of action based on these philosophical insights.

Refer to the “Social and Cultural Diversity Paper Writing Instructions”

Refer to the “Social and Cultural Diversity Paper Writing Instructions” for a detailed explanation of the requirements for the Social and Cultural Diversity Paper that you have been developing throughout the course.

Complete the final draft of the Social and Cultural Diversity Paper (1,750-2,000 words), structured in three parts, in which you address the content criteria provided in “Social and Cultural Diversity Paper Writing Instructions.”

Complete any revisions needed in the final paper based on the feedback that the instructor provided after review of your first draft.

The paper must include 10 scholarly references in addition to the textbook. More references may be used if necessary.

Topic: Confronting Sin

McMinn discussed guidelines when confronting sin during a counseling experience, and the lectures reviewed some factors as well.

Case Study:

Jean (pseudonym) was diagnosed with schizophrenia. She reported having very little memory of her childhood. Her mother was severely depressed and, on several occasions throughout Jean’s early childhood, the mother spent several months at a time hospitalized for her depression. When her mother returned home, she would at times “lose control” and start beating on the children. Jean’s father left her mother when Jean was only three years old. Jean was eventually removed from the home and placed in foster care. She moved around from one foster care parent to another, and finally came to live with a pastor and his wife who raised her in a warm, loving family. Unfortunately, Jean started “looking for love in all the wrong places.” Jean became promiscuous and eventually got pregnant. This was a great disappointment to the pastor and his wife. Jean had been attending church regularly before the pregnancy and had made a profession of faith in Christ. She felt extremely guilty about the pregnancy. The pastor’s wife told Jean that she was extremely disappointed with her and that she was embarrassed to have her in her home. Not long thereafter, Jean secretly got an abortion. She then ran away with a young man to a hippie commune in California (during the late 60s). Jean is now 55 years old and has been in and out of counseling her entire life. Recently, she was referred for therapy following an attempted suicide.

1. Why can a sensitive Christian counselor not just automatically and quickly confront obvious sin in the life of the counselee?

2. Of the cautions mentioned by the class sources, which ones do you think counselors most often overlook? Why?

3. What forms of confrontation do you think would work best in this scenario? Why?

4. When would you confront this woman’s sin in counseling with her?

Increase physical activity in children and their parents in Wilmington, Delaware through the “Walking for Life” health education program.

When developing and implementing a grant proposal, the grantee must consider the project structure and four models for proposal development. Understanding this framework helps to fine tune the proposal and ensure that consideration has been given to selecting the appropriate resources required to carry out the project.

There are four models that can be used for proposal development and implementation: individual, consultative, cooperative, and collaborative. Working as an individual may be sufficient for smaller projects or a pilot. However, the consultative, cooperative, and collaborative models may be required to carry out more complex work. Each of these models involve careful consideration of the required level of resources, collaboration, and partnerships.

In preparation for this Discussion, consider the four models of proposal development as well as when each type of design is appropriate. Review this week’s Learning Resources that focuses on these models. Reflect upon the characteristics of persuasive writing learned in Module 2.

By Day 3 of Week 3

Post the following to the Discussion board:

  • In a 2- to 3-slide PowerPoint presentation with      recorded voiceover, compare and contrast the four models of proposal      development (individual, consultative, cooperative, and collaborative) and      how each model would work in your grant-funded project. Persuade your      classmates why your choice of one of these four models is most      appropriately aligned with your proposed project.

Be sure to support your analysis and conclusions with citations and references in APA format from the Learning Resources and your own research.

By Day 5 of Week 3

Comment on at least three of your colleagues’ posts in one or more of the following ways:

  • Ask a probing question about a colleague’s choice in      selecting their model. Clarify any assumptions and/or gaps that he or she      needs to address.
  • Share a resource with a colleague that supports the use      of the model he or she has chosen.

Discussion 2: Writing Goals and Objectives for Your Grant

A goal is a general statement of what you hope to accomplish with your grant. In grant writing, there are 2-5 goals. Goals are broad generalizations and are abstract, not measurable. Each goal is about the outcome or impacts your grant-funded health education program is going to accomplish. In your goals, you want to catch the eye of the grant reviewers. Your goals must loop back to your needs statement.

An objective is directly tied to the goal the grant seeker is trying to achieve through grant funding opportunities. Objectives are very targeted and include the outcome(s) that will help accomplish the goal the objective addresses. In grant writing, SMART objective writing application should always apply. SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-phased. There should be 2-5 objectives for each goal, and there should be enough objectives to accomplish the goal.

Below is an example goal and an objective for a goal.

Goal #1: Increase physical activity in children and their parents in Wilmington, Delaware through the “Walking for Life” health education program.

Objective 1A: At the end of the first six months of the “Walking for Life” health education program, 100 parents and their children will increase their daily physical activity to walking at least one mile.
For this week’s discussion board, you will be sharing your health education program’s needs statement, two goals, and two objectives. Ensure all parts of the posting are aligned to guidelines and requirements contained in the RFP.

Note: To be respectful of your peers, in providing feedback that will be useful to them as they finalize their Needs Statement, Goals, and Objectives for Assignment 1, you are encouraged to post your responses to your colleagues by Day 5.

By Day 3 of Week 4

Post the following:

  • Your Needs Statement, Goals and Objectives.

Please use the following templates to develop your goals and objectives.

To develop a goal, use the template below and fill in the blanks and create a sentence:

__________________
(Increase or decrease)

__________________
(what)

__________________
(in whom)

__________________
(where)

__________________.
(in the name of your health education program).

To develop SMART objectives, use the template below and fill in the blanks and create a sentence:

By_____/_____/_____,
WHEN—Time bound

_____________________________________________
WHO/WHAT—-Specific

from _____________________ to __________________________.
MEASURE with a number, rate, percentage of change, or baseline—Measurable

Be sure to support your analysis and conclusions with citations and references in APA format from the Learning Resources and your own research.

In this week’s Discussion, you proposed a project idea and explained why it might be attractive to funders.

In this week’s Discussion, you proposed a project idea and explained why it might be attractive to funders. You also distinguished it from other projects that have tried to solve the same problem or meet the same need. As you have no doubt discovered, locating an RFP that aligns to your project idea is a big task. The search can be complex, requiring skilled use of key words, the capability to navigate different websites, and the ability to critically evaluate a funder’s mission and goals as well as its guidelines for funding. You also need to decide whether public or private funding is most desirable for you and consider why.

At this point in your review of the literature, it is a good idea to begin thinking about how you will support the need in your proposal. Proof of need might include numerical data/statistics (e.g., client-related, local, state, national). In other cases, surveys and/or focus groups might be required for collecting preliminary data that will support the need. As you look at evidence-based practices and/or what is currently being done to solve the problem or address the need, keep in mind that a funder will not fund an identical project, but if an applicant is proposing to build on what someone else has done, that might be acceptable.

With consideration to feedback received from your colleagues and to your continued review of the literature, in this Assignment you will finalize your project idea. In deciding upon a project, it is important to consider carefully the breadth of elements that will be addressed in the proposal. Although you will not have worked out all the issues yet, you should have confidence that you will be able to resolve them. From this project idea, you will continue through the steps of writing a grant proposal. Additionally, considering the feedback you received from your colleagues for the three RFPs you posted in Discussion 2, and to the continued analysis of your search results for state, federal, and foundation grants, you will finalize your funder selection.

For this Assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Review the Gitlin & Lyons textbook pp. 82–83 for      information on Abstracts.
  • Review a wide variety of grant RFPs. The funding agency      grant can be either an active or a closed grant.
  • While reviewing the RFPs, think of how you could use      each grant in a project.
  • When you find an RFP that matches your project idea,      review the literature to determine if your project idea has been addressed      in the way you are proposing. If it has, then move on until you have a      novel project idea that can be funded by an RFP.

In a 3- to 5-page paper, address the following:

Part I:

  • Provide the title or description of the grant for which      you will apply. Add the most appropriate hyperlink (URL) for identifying      the RFP.
  • What makes you confident that this RFP is worth      pursuing?
  • How did you evaluate the RFPs?
  • What type of search engine did you use?
  • What are the selected funding agency’s goals and      applicant eligibility?
  • Finally, explain why you selected this RFP.

Part II:

  • Locate the abstract section in the APA course paper      template. In the abstract section of the template, write an abstract that      does not go over one page and that includes the following:
    • Describe your project. What are you proposing to do?
    • Why is it significant and innovative?
    • Explain what led you to this project.
    • Describe the purpose of your project and why you       believe it should be funded.
    • Explain how and why your project is a better solution       than what is currently being done to solve the problem.

Identify the research design category you believe is suitable for investigating your research question.

Developing a research proposal requires specific steps that need to be executed in a sequence.

Develop a draft of CHAPTER 1. While you will have the opportunity to revisit and finalize Chapter 1 in Assessment 4, this submission should be fully developed.

Note: Developing a research proposal requires specific steps that need to be executed in a sequence. The assessments in this course are presented in sequence and must be completed in order. Only one assessment can be submitted at a time. Subsequent submissions should include highlighted changes.

For your first project assessment, you will draft CHAPTER 1, using the appropriate guide that is located in the resource section of this assessment. This outline will provide you with an opportunity to make a case as to why this research should be explored. Make sure that your rationale is evidence based.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

  • Competency 1: Determine the scientific merit of the professional literature.
    • Background of the study: Summarize briefly what is known so far about the phenomena under investigation.
    • Statement of the problem: Present the description of the research problem and an explanation that describes how the research problem led to the current research question.
    • Purpose of the study: Describe what information is needed in order to advance the knowledge base.
    • Research design: Summarize the design approach by identifying whether it is qualitative or quantitative.
  • Competency 6: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the psychological profession.
    • Adhere to APA style and formatting guidelines; writing is concise and well organized.

APA Resources

Because this is a psychology course, you must format this assessment according to APA guidelines, since it is the writing style of the profession. Use the following resources to guide your work. Additional resources about APA can be found in the Research Resources in the left navigation menu of your courseroom.

  • American Psychological Association. (2010). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). Washington, DC: Author.
    • Chapter 1, “Writing for the Behavioral and Social Sciences.”
    • Chapter 2, “Manuscript Structure and Content.”
    • Chapter 3, “Writing Clearly and Concisely.”

Preparation

Before you begin, carefully read the course overview and syllabus as well as chapters 1-3 of the APA manual. Review the Chapters 1–5 Integrated Project Overview document under Required Resources and the Research Proposal Development Resources under Suggested Resources. These tools are fundamental to your understanding of how to approach the first stage of research.

The introductory section of your Integrative Project (Research Proposal): Chapters 1–5 will include two significant descriptions:

  • The area of practice that you have chosen for the project.
  • The significance of this topic for the scientific community.

For Assessment 1, you will submit a draft of CHAPTER 1 for feedback and grading. To complete this assessment, you need to do the following:

  • Identify a topic as it relates to the field of psychology. The more specific and focused your topic, the more useful and comprehensive it will be. Present your topic that will guide your search of the literature. Be sure, as you identify your topic, to identify the context that the population inhabits. Consider identifying gender, developmental stage, age range, region, diagnoses or health status, intervention or therapy, assessment tools, racial identity, ethnic identity, class, history and other specifics associated with the questions that you wish to explore.
  • Identify the knowledge gap or problem you wish to address. In your proposal, your readers will need to understand why this research is needed and how it would contribute to the overall knowledge pool. To help with this process, become familiar with existing literature. As you read the work of others, consider the following:
    • What types of problems are all or most of the authors attempting to address?
    • What questions are these authors explicitly asking? What questions might they be implicitly asking?
  • Create a research question that serves as the guiding question for the proposal, which should include a valid reason for your positioning. The research question should determine the scope of your proposal.

Walkthrough: You may view the following walkthrough video to help you complete the Draft of CHAPTER 1 assessment:

Instructions

explain how Kant argues that morality must be based on his categorical imperative and universal absolute reasoning.

Immanuel Kant states that his (moral) categorical imperative is a synthetic a priori proposition.  That is, a proposition that guides one to see the necessary conditions for the possibility of experience.  In this case, the categorical imperative reveals the necessary conditions for moral experience.  Opposed to Hume and Locke (empiricists), Kant argues that moral experience requires absolute universal reasoning that cannot relying on previous experiences or future predictions as a guide to what is and will be moral.  Whereas Hume and Locke would argue that moral acts are determined by experience and their consequences on human life (an inductive form of reasoning), Kant argues that absolute deductive reasoning must be used to find the essential nature of certain intentions or maxims.  For example, the maxim or intention of lying is by definition evil.

In your paper explain how Kant argues that morality must be based on his categorical imperative and universal absolute reasoning.  To do this, show how Kant rejects empiricists’ arguments that morality must be based human experiences and predictions.  Finally, determine which position Kant’s or Hume and/or Locke’s view is most convincing and why; defend your analysis.

Your paper should be 4-5 pages double-spaced, normal margins.
