Research Project (20%)
Students are required to complete a research project consisting of a paper and presentation. The student must use a minimum of five (5) scholarly sources, at least three (3) of which must be sources that are not a part of the assigned reading. Wikipedia and other websites are not scholarly sources. Books and peer-reviewed journal articles are examples of scholarly sources. The paper is required to be in APA format, including a title page and references page. The paper is required to be a minimum of 3 pages (not including title page or reference page). If you have a question about whether or not a source is considered a scholarly source, where to find sources, or about APA style, I’m happy to help. The presentation can be in any format of your choice and must be at least 10 minutes long. You can work by yourself or in group of 2 or 3.
Possible topics for the research project include:
- Compare and contrast 12-step treatment with other treatment modalities.
- Choose a dual diagnosis (one addiction and mental illness, ex: Alcohol Dependence and Bipolar Disorder I) and describe what research says about how the two impact one another and an evidence based treatment.
- Process addiction of your choice.
- A topic of your choice that is relevant to class material and is approved by me at least two weeks prior to the due date
